CBC releases 2007-08 broadcasting schedule
CBC's Hockey Night in Canada returns for the 2007-08 season. with a new television deal with the NHL, and plenty of hockey action to follow for the upcoming season.
In all, 86 regular season NHL games will be broadcast by the CBC this winter, beginning on opening night when the defending Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks face the Los Angeles Kings in London, England. Also included in the coverage is the NHL All Star Weekend festivities from Atlanta beginning Jan. 26, 2008, which includes the YoungStars game, Super Skills Competition, and All Star Game the following night. CBC'S Hockey Day in Canada also returns Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008 which features 4 games featuring all 6 Canadian teams.
Webcasting of CBC's Hockey Night in Canada will continue this season as part of a new deal between the NHL and the CBC that allows the network to stream its broadcasts online for free. Web users got a preview of this new feature when the CBC introduced webcasting of all of its coverage of the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs, which was applauded by users. Included in each Hockey Night in Canada broadcast is a half hour pre-game show and post-game show. The webcasting feature also allows users to view any Hockey Night in Canada broadcast online, regardless of regional coverage restrictions. Users may also browse the HNIC archives for past broadcasts.
