Prepare to celebrate, Canada! CBC'S Hockey Day in Canada, the eighth annual broadcast, presented by Tim Hortons, drops the puck on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 12 noon ET, as host Ron MacLean tells the story of the sport that unites us all, live from Winkler, Man. MacLean will be front and centre at the Winkler Recreation Complex to pay tribute to Canada's great frozen game, alongside Don Cherry, Cassie Campbell, Scott Morrison and Dick Irvin.
The 2008 edition of CBC'S HOCKEY DAY IN CANADA will celebrate "The Journey", exploring how people's lives are shaped and changed by the game of hockey. Edmonton Oilers forward Dustin Penner, a native of Winkler, began his unique hockey journey at the rink in Winkler when he was a high school player, and finished with hoisting the Stanley Cup in Anaheim in June 2007. The Stanley Cup champion returns to his hometown to celebrate CBC'S HOCKEY DAY IN CANADA, and joins MacLean and Kelly Hrudey in Winkler to kick off a special Thursday night edition of CBC'S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA, as the Canadiens host the Toronto Maple Leafs in Montreal, on Feb. 7, at 6 p.m. CT / 7 p.m. ET.
Headlining the wall-to-wall hockey celebration, on Feb. 9, is the traditional big-ticket NHL tripleheader, featuring all of Canada's teams, starting with Detroit facing off against the Leafs in Toronto, at 2 p.m. CT / 3 p.m. ET, followed by Scotiabank Hockey Tonight, at 5:30 p.m. CT / 6:30 p.m. ET, and Montreal at Ottawa / Edmonton at Calgary, at 6 p.m. CT / 7 p.m. ET. In the nightcap of CBC'S HOCKEY DAY IN CANADA tripleheader, Vancouver hosts Colorado, at 9 p.m. CT / 10 p.m. ET. CBC'S HOCKEY DAY IN CANADA will be available on-demand at cbcsports.ca.
