by Hockey Canada

Five of the best Junior A hockey teams from across Canada have gathered in Cornwall, ON to compete for the 2008 RBC Cup, Canada's National Junior A Championship.

The host Cornwall Colts of the CJHL will be joined by the Camrose Kodiaks (Pacific, AJHL), Humboldt Broncos (West, SJHL), Oakville Blades (Central, OPJHL) and Weeks Crushers (East, MJAHL) at the event, which runs from May 3rd to 11th at the Cornwall Civic Complex.

“We are so excited that the start of the 2008 RBC Cup has arrived. All of the teams have played hard to get here and RBC wants to celebrate that,” said Mike Haley, RBC's regional vice-president for eastern Ontario. “We have fantastic kick-off events planned for our community, including the free RBC barbecue at FanFest and the RBC Trophy March which will lead into the official opening ceremonies with spirit.”

The 2008 RBC Cup kicks off on Saturday, May 3rd, when the host Cornwall Colts take on the Humboldt Broncos at 7:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. PT. Prior to the game, at 1:00 p.m. ET, will be the opening ceremonies at the Civic Complex, which will be free of charge to attend. Fans are invited to join RBC as they march the RBC Cup from the Cornwall main branch to the Civic Complex beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET, and pre-game festivities get underway with FanFest - including face painting, hot-air balloon rides, interactive hockey games, a barbecue and much more - at 4:00 p.m. ET.

Hockey Canada has also announced that Corey Trivino, the only Junior A player on Canada's gold medal-winning National Men's Under-18 Team, will be in attendance at the Civic Complex on Saturday for the pre-game festivities, and will perform the ceremonial opening face-off prior to the tournament-opening game between Cornwall and Humboldt.

The gold medal game on Sunday, May 11th will be broadcast LIVE on TSN/RDS, the official broadcaster of Hockey Canada, at 1:00 p.m. ET/10:00 a.m. PT. Check your local listings for the broadcast time in your area.
