NeuLion rumoured to replace B2 Networks as AHL provider
by hockeywebcasts.com staff
NeuLion Inc. has apparently struck a deal with American Hockey League to broadcast live games throughout the league beginning during the upcoming 2008-09 season. This effectively puts an end to the partnership between the AHL and B2 Networks, who have been streaming all of the AHL's games for the past few seasons via Pay-Per-View.
Although no official announcement has been made, is has been widely rumoured that NeuLion, who are currently providing the NHL's Center Ice Online package and NHL TV content, will be taking over. Fans of the American Hockey League have been left somewhat in the dark over the summer with regards to archived games and live games for 2008-09, with nothing more than a "Check back later" announcement on the AHL's Live Webcasts page. B2 Networks has also seemingly removed all of the AHL archived games from their website, leading many to assume that the writing is on the wall and a formal announcement is likely on the horizon.
In addition to the NHL, NeuLion Inc has already been working with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL in providing streaming video as part of the Sound Tigers TV feature. The interactive application offers items such as game highlights, gameday features, player interviews and more. NeuLion also provides this service for all 30 NHL teams.
